About Suzanne

Suzanne writes books for children and young adults. Her first novel, WASHASHORE, a middle-grade story about a boy, a girl and an endangered osprey, was the winner of the 2014 Green Earth Book Award. “This book will capture, transport and inspire a great breadth of readers,” according to Green Teacher magazine.

Suzanne’s nonfiction book A CITY YEAR was a first-hand account of a year in a youth community service program. Sociologist Amitai Etzioni called it “the best book ever—written from the trenches—on what it is like to volunteer, from a keen observer and storywriter.”

A journalist who has won many awards for her work, Suzanne is now studying for an MFA in writing for children and young adults at Hamline University. She divides her time between Columbus, Ohio and Martha’s Vineyard. She loves birds and birding, hiking, and just about anything to do with the ocean.
